Pl. 4: 259 (1838). Type: Mexico [Puebla], prope urbem Cholula, alt. 1080 hex. (Humboldt & Bonpland s.n., fl. Jan., P). - stems and leaves typically puberulous, native area C to S America, whereas I. coccinea in native to N America. Although Chung (2018) refers Taiwanese plants as I. cholulensis, he described stems as glabrous.
